 It was  Christmas time
 There I stood in  line
  to buy that last gift or two
 I'm really  the Christmas mood

 They counted pennies for  seemed like years
 And  cashier said, “Son, there's not enough here.”
 He searched his pockets 
 And he turned and  looked at me
 He said, “Momma made Christmas good  our house
 though most years  just did without.
 Tell me,  what am I gonna do?
  I’ve got to buy her these Christmas shoes.”
 
  I laid the money down
 I just had  help him out
 And  never forget
 The look on  face
 When he  “Momma's gonna look so great.”
 
 “Sir, I wanna buy these shoes for  momma, please
 It's Christmas Eve and these shoes  just her size
 Could  hurry, sir?
  says there's not much time
 You see, she's been sick for quite a 
 And I know these shoes will make her 
 And I want her  look beautiful
 If momma  Jesus tonight.”
 
 I knew I’d caught a glimpse of heaven’s love as he thanked  and ran out.
 I knew that God  sent that little boy to remind me
 What  is all about
 
 “Sir, I  buy these shoes for my momma, please
 It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are  her size

 You see, she's been  for quite a while
