 No one seemed  notice me
 Being young was getting  old
 Cheap beer and 
 Life was  a movie set
 And I seemed to be  no role
 
 But  times of trouble
 I can turn  my mother
 And I know that she gon’ 
 So  age 18
 I cried to my 
 And she told  “young man”
 
 “There are moments when you fall  the ground
 But you are stronger than you feel you  now
  don’t always have to speak so loud, no
 Just be as  are
  is not always a comfortable ride
 Everybody’s got scars that  hide
 And everybody plays the fool  yeah
 Just be as  are”
 
 They played me  the radio
  everything was changing, so
 I thought I was all the way 
 But I can  remember in that cold November
 When  realized I’m all alone
 
 But  times of trouble
  can turn to my mother
 And I know that she gon’ 
  at age 22
  cried to my mother
  she told me, “young man”
 
 “There are moments when you fall to  ground
 But you are stronger than you feel  are now
 You  always have to speak so loud, no
 Just  as you are
  doesn’t matter if you become some star
 Life is better when  open your heart
 You don’t always  to act so hard, no
  be as you are”
 
 If I’m speaking 
 I’m not who I used  be
 And I know some people  laugh
 ‘Cause my music doesn’t sound the 
 And my  no longer shaved
 I’m worried if I’m on the  path
 
 But in times  trouble
 I can turn to  mother
 And  know that she gon’ understand
  at age 26
 I spoke  my mother
 And she told  “young man”
